Abstract: Carrie B. Coss Papers cover the time she spent as an educator at Prairie View A&M University from 1931 to 1978. The collection consists of educational publications, bulletins, and newspaper clippings. After teaching at Langston University, Coss accepted a position as a professor in the Department of Education at Prairie View A&M University in 1946. She was a committee member chairperson for Alpha Mu Gamma Honors Society Organization. In 1972, she retired from PVAMU after 26 years of service, and PVAMU President A.I. Thomas gave her special recognition, along with several other 25-year Service Employees

Biographical Note: Born on October 24, 1906, Carrie Belle Brown Coss earned bachelor's degrees from Howard University as well as Cincinnati University, and she earned a master's degree from Columbia University in New York. She married Robert Weldon Coss in Rusk County in the 1930s. After teaching at Langston University, Coss accepted a position as a professor in the Department of Education at Prairie View A&M University in 1946. She was a committee member chairperson for Alpha Mu Gamma Honors Society Organization. In 1972, she retired from PVAMU after 26 years of service, and PVAMU President A.I. Thomas gave her special recognition, along with several other 25-year Service Employees. In 1989, she conducted the research that provided the foundation for the Texas Historical Marker nomination for Wyatt Chapel Community Cemetery on the north side of campus. She died on August 20, 1996, and she was buried in Prairie View Memorial Garden Cemetery.

Arrangement: The collection is arranged in two series. Publications and bulletins and newspaper clippings and Personal Materials and Letters. Each series is arranged in chronological order by item.

Carrie B. Coss Papers cover the time she spent as an educator at Prairie View A&M University from 1931 to 1978. The collection consists of educational publications, bulletins and newspaper clippings. Some newspaper clippings are original, and some are copies. You will also find funeral programs on Wille Rutherford Banks and Robert Weldon Coss.
