Abstract: Dr. John Milton. Coruthers served as a professor of Agricultural Economics at Prairie View from 1937 to 1967, where he conducted experimental projects with farm products, such as vegetable and flower gardens. The John M. Coruthers papers contain materials related to agriculture and horticulture in Texas from 1944-1975. This small collection consists of a few personal items including a funeral program, letters, and programs related to Prairie View A&M University.

Biographical Note: Dr. John Milton. Coruthers served as a professor of Agricultural Economics at Prairie View from 1937 to 1967, where he conducted experimental projects with farm products, such as vegetable and flower gardens. Born on April 15, 1900, in Bastrop County to John and Rosa Coruthers and he attended school in San Antonio, Texas. Coruthers earned degrees at Hampton Institute, the University of Wisconsin, and Cornell University, completed post-graduate work at the University of California, and he also taught at Southern University and Arkansas State. At Prairie View, he served as president of the Community Garden Club, and he directed the annual College Community Flower Show. He died on March 6, 1975, and he is buried in Prairie View Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
