HIST 2381 (P01) - African American History: SyllabusIntroduction to the history of persons of African descent on the North American continent from the
settlement of Jamestown to present. Integral to students' exposure to African-American History will
be their exposure to basic research methods and writing techniques. Students should be prepared
to examine major issues and historical events including, but not limited to: the Trans-Atlantic Slave
Trade, the black presence in Colonial America, the development of chattel slavery, Abolitionism,
Emancipation, Jim Crow, the Nadir, the Great Migration, the Harlem Renaissance, the Civil Rights Movement, and Black Power Era.
