The first step in grant writing, after you have evaluated your idea, is to find a funder that matched your goals and objectives of your project. Choosing the right funder requires searching databases and directories. Almost all research for funders is done online now, and some of the directories are free but most require a subscription.
One great resource that could be helpful is Candid, formerly The Foundation Center and Guidestar. These organizations combined to form one resource Candid. This resource gives you access to a wide variety of research on grant making agencies, a database, plus a basic collection of publications.
