Introduction and Overview of Services

The PVAMU Psychology Training Clinic (referred to as the Clinic or PVPTC) is a not-for-profit mental health facility that was established in 2008. The Clinic is a teaching, training and clinical research center affiliated with the PVAMU Department of Psychology, College of Juvenile Justice and Psychology. Within this setting, a variety of mental health care services are provided, including individual (child, adolescent and adult), couples, families and group psychotherapies, a broad range of psychological assessments, as well as mental health consultation to physicians, other mental health facilities, and community-area schools. Services are provided by two categories of clinicians: 1) Clinical Adolescent Psychology Doctoral Program graduate students (referred to as Clinician Trainees) in the Department of Psychology, whose service delivery is supervised by Texas Board licensed clinical psychology Clinic faculty members; and 2) Department of Psychology faculty members who are either licensed or supervised by Texas Board licensed clinical psychologists. All student and faculty mental health service providers are, hereafter, referred to as “Clinicians”. The PVAMU Psychology Clinic services are provided to the following: 1) Members of PVAMU student body; 2) the immediate Prairie View community, and 3) immediate surrounding communities (e.g., Waller County, Northwest Harris County, Hempstead).
