"Music teachers and band directors, like all teachers, are decision makers. Band director, as music teachers, must decide what and when to teach. Band directors must decide what techniques they will use to teach whatever they decide to teach. Band directors must decide what procedures they wil use to determine whether or not they were successful in teaching whatever they decided to teach. And perhaps before they begin the decision-making processes about the "what" or "when", "how" and "if" in teaching music, band directors should carefully consider why anyone would need to know or be able to do whatever they have decided to teach. All of these decisions are important....
"For band directors in schools, one opportunity to teach music to students commonly occurs in a band performance setting: a band rehearsal. What the band director does to, for, and with students during this music rehearsal has the potential to directly affect student learning."
