Create an AI-generated art exhibit at the Northwest Houston Center and the 3rd Floor of the Coleman Library on the Main Campus. This is open to all students, faculty, and staff. Peer judging will determine two top winners who will get tote bags with their AI-generated art printed on them generously provided by Luxury Goods. Participants will be given the printed artwork to keep after the end of the exhibit. Submissions will be due on Sunday, February 23rd by 11:59 pm to allow time for printing, mounting, and display for the unveiling at the Northwest Center on February 28th at 6:00 pm and on the Main Campus on March 6, 2024 at 2:00 pm.

Contest Theme: The exhibit is connected to the ASALH theme for Black History Month 2024Links to an external site., African Americans and the Arts. African American artists have used art to preserve history and community memory as well as for empowerment. Artistic and cultural movements such as the New Negro, Black Arts, Black Renaissance, hip-hop, and Afrofuturism, have been led by people of African descent and set the standard for popular trends around the world. The project also serves as a means to educate participants about the history of renowned African American artists while experimenting with AI technologies to generate artwork.
There are two options in the template. One if you are covering an Artist and another if an Art Movement.
Information About Artist: Give a general description of the artist, their inspiration, and impact and include dates of birth and death and if applicable what art movement they participated in.
Sample Art from Artist: Provide two images created by the artist
Presenter Information: Provide your name and a brief background about you. Include if you are a student, staff member or faculty member. If more than one applies and you are a student, say, student.
AI Prompt: Provide the prompt you used to create your unique piece of art with AI
Purpose and Goals of Project: Participants will learn how to generate art using various AI technologies. Participants will research African American artist to reflect their style within their art. pieces. Participants will learn how to integrate conceptual and abstract thinking to communicate visual ideas. Hybrid methods will be used for instruction and convenience including the creation of a self-guided video, so that more are able to participate.
