Essay #3: Research-Based Position Paper

Purpose: The student will be able to write a research-based paper of 7-10 pages in length NOT including the Reference page(s), on a topic of their choosing which must be approved by the professor prior to beginning any research you can, however, compose your paper over the controversial topic you selected for last week’s assignment. Please be advised that previous submissions from this course or any other courses are NOT allowed.

Description: Choose a topic that interests you to research and write a paper of 7-10 pages in length NOT including the Works Cited page(s),  in APA format using a minimum of (6) sources form the PVAMU library website or Google Scholar,  as supporting evidence to prove your claims.  

You MUST clearly state your position based on facts regarding the topic you selected  using rationale for that position in a way that incorporates supportive evidence from at least (6) sources. This argument you are creating, is based on facts which provide a solid foundation for your argument. The criteria for this paper is listed on this document & will be considered “proper  form” when evaluating and grading your work. It is your responsibility to check your paper against these standards BEFORE submitting it electronically to Canvas using the TurnItIn link. Multiple submissions are NOT allowed to TurnItIn.com.

Due Date: Your paper will be due THURSDAY, APRIL 28TH, 2022 by 07:06 pm via Canvas  through the TurnItIn submission link. NO LATE PAPERS, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, WILL BE ACCEPTED and ANY PAPER EMAILED WILL NOT BE GRADED. NO EXCEPTIONS & YOU WILL RECEIVE A 0 FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT.

This paper is your final grade this paper is worth 150 points

Content:

    The topic, position, and claims must be approved by your professor. Any paper turned in that has not been approved by your professor, will NOT be graded and will receive a grade of a 0. NO EXCEPTIONS.

    The paper’s content is 7-10 at length (Works Cited page(s) do NOT count as part of the length).

    The paper must have a thesis which clearly states a position and (3) claims to support this position this must be clearly stated first paragraph.

    There are at LEAST (6) different sources cited within the paper to support each claim (2 sources per claim as evidence to support your position)

    Points will be deducted if your plagiarism is more than 10%.

Organization/Writing:

    The paper is written in 3rd person. Ex: he, she, it, they, him, her, them, you, one, etc.

    The paper does NOT contain 1st or 2nd person pronouns. Ex: I, me, my, we, us, our, you, yours, I think, I feel, I believe, In my opinion, etc.

    Each supporting paragraph (not the intro and not the conclusion) includes at least (2) citations from (2) different sources, correctly cited in MLA format, to support your claims you mentioned in the thesis/intro paragraph.

    The conclusion effectively summarizes the writer’s main argument and re-states the thesis, does NOT ask any questions, does NOT offer any personal commentary, does NOT begin with: In conclusion, In closing, etc.

Mechanics:

    The paper is 12-point Times New Roman Font, double-spaced, one-inch margins.

    The paper contains LITTLE TO no spelling or punctuation errors.

    The paper contains LITTLE TO no grammatical errors.

    In-text citations are in APA formatted (direct quotes and paraphrased ideas).

    The paper includes a correctly formatted Reference page which will list all (6) of the sources you cited within the paper.
