Students will need library resources for their literature reviews and will need APA format/citation guidance and information about copyright/plagiarism. The primary things we need are APA instruction, overview of searching the online library database, and how to determine which sources are "scholarly/peer-review" as my students will not be permitted to cite newspapers, magazines, etc in their literature reviews.
Select topics you wish to be covered. As for research assignments. Students are working in groups throughout the class to work on a research proposal (topic of their choice but it has to be related to criminal justice). They have 5 draft assignments which include (1) research questions (2) outline of intro/lit review, (3) intro and literature review, (4) method, and (5) abstract, implications, limitations, and future directions. They compile these components and edit based on my feedback for their final proposal submission. They are also completing 2 article critiques this semester (but I am already providing the articles to them).
