The music collection at Prairie View A & M University is split between John B. Coleman Library and Dr. Robert A. Henry Music Library (1F155 Hobart Taylor Hall).
What is the difference between the two libraries?
The major reference books (i.e. New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians) are in both libraries.The Coleman Library has a bigger reference and book collect. The Henry Music Library has a book collection and a reference collection. The biggest difference is that only the Henry Library has the music scores and sound recordings. Since there is a turntable and a CD player in the library, the patrons can listen to the sound as they study the score.
Books in each collection are classified in the Library of Congress System. The main call scheme for music starts with an "
M -- music scores and sound recordings (The Henry Library uses MXL and MXC for sound recordings.)
ML -- books - literature on music
MT -- books - music instruction and study.
