Access Services response to COVID-19

NOTICE

Whenever the building is closed, please return books to the book drop located on the west side of the Coleman Library near the Dunkin' entrance.

Books can also be mailed using the United States Postal Service, the mailing address is:

Books

Books

There is a maximum of three (3) renewals per patron.  A faculty member may request recall of a book after it has been checked out if it is needed for reserve. Recall notices will be mailed to patrons who are requested to return the material immediately. Circulation privileges will be suspended for patrons who do not immediately return recalled materials. An individual who wishes to use a book that is charged out may place a “hold” on the item. S/he will be notified when the book becomes available.  The date the book is to be returned to the library, the due date, is stamped in each book or printed on a receipt. Patrons are responsible for returning all borrowed items on time whether or not an overdue notice is received. Overdue notices will be sent to patron’s PVAMU email within fourteen (14) days of the due date, with a second notice sent after twenty-one (21) days. Books may be returned at the circulation counter, in the book return slot at the circulation counter, in the book drop box at the main entrance or the outside book return on the west side of the library. The borrower is responsible for material lost due to improper returns. Fines may be paid online or at the Cashier’s window in the W. R. Banks Building. A fine is charged for each day an item is overdue. 

 

If library materials are not returned or reported lost within 30 days of the due date for students and community or 120 days for faculty & Staff, the patron’s borrowing privileges are suspended. The patron’s record will be blocked in the automated system, preventing any further checkouts until the situation has been remedied. No block notices are sent.

 

There is no limit in the automated system to the number of items that may be checked out but Circulation staff reserve the right to limit checkout and renewal.

Video tapes, cassette tapes, CDs, DVDs are available for checkout in the Circulation Department. Other audio/visual items and equipment such as VCRs, DVD players, headphones, projectors, pointers and clickers are also available for short term loan.

TexShare Cards

TexShare Cards

TexShare member patrons may use special ID cards obtained from their home institutions to check-out materials from the Coleman Library. Materials in circulating collection can be checked out to faculty and students for 3 weeks. A maximum of four items can be borrowed per visit. Borrowing privileges will be suspended for non-return of materials or failure to pay billed charges.

Book Scanning

 

Faxing

Faxing service is provided by the Circulation Department Staff at the Circulation Desk, on the 1st floor of the Library for students with current PVAMU-ID cards.

  • Faxing service is NOT available to “international” locations. 
  • Fax Cover Sheets are available at the Circulation Desk.
  • Rush requests “cannot” be accommodated at this location.
  • Faxes will be sent by full-time library staff, and will “not” take priority over other Circulation or Reserve Desk services.
  • The library is not responsible for errors in faxing due to poor image quality, problems on the receiving end, incorrect fax numbers, etc.
  • Number of scanned documents should not exceed 15 pages.
